Two Options Available to Migrate: #
- Option 1: Delete your current WhatsApp Business App account and migrate to the WhatsApp Business Platform (Cloud API).
- Option 2: In certain selected countries, you can use both the WhatsApp Business App and WhatsApp API solution simultaneously without losing your chat history. This WhatsApp Coexistence (dual usage option) — without needing to delete your account — is only available in a limited number of regions.
Option 1 : By deleting your WhatsApp Messenger App Account. #
To use an existing WhatsApp App phone number as API, you must first delete your WhatsApp account. Remember to back up your chat history from the WhatsApp Business App. These are guides on how to do so for Android or iOS.
Step-by-Step Guide to delete number from WhatsApp Business App
- Open WhatsApp Messenger or WhatsApp Business app on your Android or iPhone
- Navigate to Settings > Account
- Select Delete my account. Messages sent to this phone number will be queued in the meantime
- Follow the steps to delete the WhatsApp account for that phone number. It may take up to 3 minutes for the disconnected number to become available

Once the number is available, follow the instructions to Add a Phone Number to API.
Option 2: WhatsApp Coexistence – Dual usage without deleting the account #
Before beginning the integration process, ensure you meet the following requirements:
- WhatsApp Business App: You must have an active WhatsApp Business App or a new number ready to be used on the Business Platform.
- Admin Access: Ensure you have admin privileges for your WhatsApp Business Account.
- Phone Number Eligibility: Confirm that your business phone number is eligible for onboarding to the Cloud API.
Step-by-Step Guide to Connecting WhatsApp Business App to Xpressbot
Log in to your Xpressbot dashboard.
Go to the WhatsApp section and select Connect Account.
Click on Connect WhatsApp to start the process.

Now select your desired option. ( If you wnat catalog to be synced use Catalog option)

Now the WhatsApp Embedded Signup Flow will be launced, Click on the Continue with Facebook button.

Select your existing Business Account you wish to integrate or Create new one

Now under setup : Choose Connect your existing Whatsapp Business App

Add the phone number associated with your WhatsApp Business App.

Now you will be presented with a QR code and instructions to check for a new WhatsApp Business app message:

The WhatsApp message instructs the business to use the app to scan the QR code displayed in Embedded Signup. Tapping the button in the message informs the business that they will be given the option to share their WhatsApp Business app messaging history with you, Tapping the Scan QR code button in the app then gives the business the option to share their chat history with you.

After the business chooses an option and scans the code, they can complete the remainder of the Embedded Signup flow. This returns their asset IDs and exchangeable token code to the spawning window, as normal. You can then use that information in API calls to (1) onboard the customer the same way you would any other business customer and (2) synchronize their contacts and messaging history (if permitted by the business) so you can populate it in your app.
Common Issues & Troubleshooting:
1. Phone Number Not Eligible for Onboarding
- Reason: The number is already linked to a different WhatsApp API account or a personal WhatsApp account.
- Solution: Remove the number from the previous account and wait at least 10 minutes before attempting to retry.
2. API Connection Failures
- Reason: Incorrect API credentials or issues with WhatsApp servers.
- Solution: Double-check your API credentials in Xpressbot and ensure there are no ongoing server outages with WhatsApp Cloud API.
3. Message Delivery Delays
- Reason: High traffic or restrictions imposed by WhatsApp on certain accounts.
- Solution: If the issue persists, try reaching out to WhatsApp support for assistance, or verify your account is compliant with WhatsApp’s marketing guidelines.
4. Contact Sync Issues
- Reason: The contact list may not be properly synced between WhatsApp Business and Xpressbot.
- Solution: Make sure the sync settings in Xpressbot are correct, and check the permissions for contact access on your WhatsApp Business account.
